Designer: Alida Sayer

Alida Sayer is a visual designer based in East London. She works across the fields of typography, graphic design, 3D-design, animation and illustration using a combination of both hand-crafted and digital processes. A prominent feature of Sayer’s work is the layering of information, particularly typography, in such a way that it begins to reveal simultaneous depths and relationships that might not normally be visible. She is particularly interested in seeking to express visually what cannot be communicated using either words or pictures alone, often by treating letterforms as tactile objects and manipulating them in order to enhance, distort, undermine or expand their meaning. Sayer studied Architecture then Visual Communication and Illustration at Glasgow School of Art (2005-2009). In 2009 she won an :Output Foundation Print Creativity Award (Amsterdam) and a D&AD Best New Blood Award (London). Her first major solo show took place at Marsden Woo Gallery (London) in June 2010 and her work is featured in the books 3D Typography by Jeanette Abbink and Emily CM Anderson (Mark Batty Publisher, 2010) and in Lettering: A Manual of Process by Andrew Haslam (Lawrence King, due for release 2011). Recent projects and commissions have also included music artwork, fashion branding, sculptural installation, set-design and animated film titles. From June 10th to 13th 2011 Sayer will be exhibiting major new three-dimensional works in a group show at Kingsland Road Studio, 288 Kingsland Road, Hackney, London, E8 4DN. www.alidarosie.co.uk
